I didn’t die

Fall off a bridge, slip on ice, go down a rabbit hole, push up daisies, bite the big one….and many many more. My blog simply broke on me. Just gave me the heave-ho out of the blogging world. I know you were all worried, just sitting on the edges of your seat hoping and praying “Filtering Life” would pop up on your feed readers….well here I am!!!

You me, me you

My lovely husband Ryan finally got it up and running again so I am back. No really I am…for good! We just got back from the worst family vacation ever…..I don’t have time to rewrite about it but if you want to see pictures and read a “nice” version of it, because it is our business blog…then here you go. I will be back in the saddle soon.

She loved the sand

Tell me your worst vacation story so I feel all nice and fuzzy inside that the fact we came back from our “vacation” more tired, stressed and broke was all worth it!

first time in the ocean

Christmas came early

I just have to write a quick one because it is eleven and I promised myself I would go to bed earlier, which believe it or not, is eleven!

We finally broke down and sold Chloe so we could invest some major dough into our business. I am kidding about the Chloe part, but Ryan and I did take a week to pray about it and came back to the table with the same figure in mind soooooooo we took the plunge and made some MAJOR purchases. We feel like the Lord confirmed it to both of us and will give us the means to pay it off. We have not used a credit card in three years so this was pretty huge for us.

The mothership came in. For those photography nerds out there, get your drool bucket. We are now the proud owners of a Canon 5D, Canon 40D, 50mm 1.4, 24-70mm 2.8, 15mm fisheye, and a 100mm macro lens. We also bought a 23 inch flat screen panel Apple display and another Macbook. We got a ton of accessories: battery grips, hand straps, new memory cards, new card readers, a whole bunch of cords I have no idea what they do and other things I don’t know how to describe. The FedEx and UPS guys are my new BFF’s. Anyway….it is all so beautiful to look at and even more impressive to hold. We were spending $300-$500 a month on renting lenses which is RIDICULOUS…..so why not just buy them and make large payments on them and OWN them instead! God is growing Kellan beyond what we could have ever dreamed in just 2.5 years and we could not be more humbled or thankful for God’s provisions for our family as well as fulfilling a major dream of ours.

So we fired off a few shots with the 5D and the new 24-70. I won’t get all nerdy on you, I will leave that for Ryan. Even he leaves me in the dust when he gets talking about the features and camera lingo.

Look at my happy boy. He is sooooo strong. He has figured out that that exersaucer can rock and roll and he goes to town in it. He is laughing so hard in this photo, I wish you could hear his laugh, it is so hysterical. I love this kid, I LOVE THIS KID!!! He has smiley eyes. That is what I call it when the eyes crinkle like this.

He is all thugged out in his hat.

I think it is hysterical that the first thing everyone says when they see Bennett is, “Man he has huge eyes.”

I just don’t get it.

He is like our very own Boston Terrier.

Chloe continues to be my laughter. She has a million faces and can turn on a dime and use them. She exercises the right to be a toddler and can make a nice pitch fit when she doesn’t get her way or god forbid we take her inside.

She is 22 months today. She looks SOOOO much older. I have to remind myself of this when I watch her run like a drunk and lumber up a playground. Her motor skills are right on for her age but her body is the size of a three year old. She is so tall and her face has matured so much.

This is her screeching laugh. I think some days her head may explode in excitement, but it does not.

Chloe is obsessed with this puzzle. It is actually really tricky and she has mastered it. I am not putting an application in for Harvard, but I am really proud of her.

I know everyone says she is the spitting image of me, but I definitely see Ryan in her.

Nerd alert, nerd alert. Chloe loves wearing this little fan around her neck. Now if we could just put Ryan’s inhaler on a string they can wear their necklaces together.

We took pictures of my niece this weekend. It is our b-day gift every year. Every teenager girls dream! She is only 15…but look at her….LOOK AT HER….she is gorgeous! She looks so much older. She has never had a boyfriend either…..just sweet and innocent and looking amazing!

1986 wants their color back

Labor Day Weekend has come and gone and boy did we take it literally.

Besides partying it up at two, one-year-old birthday parties, we made lots of yummy food and then I sat back and watched Ryan, my brother Jamie and my father work their ARSES off for 10 hours painting our house. It was a site to behold as the hunter green that once graced the cedar shakes slowly disappear into a glorious mushroom brown (Le Chateau to be exact). Classic. Simple. Clean.

I actually googled Hunter Green. Did you know it peaked in popularity in 1986? It was beginning to phase out of the decorating realm around 1992, soon to peak again in 2000 as the most popular vehicle color, only to phase out again. If my calendar serves me correctly. It is 2008. That would be almost 20 years past it’s prime.

I love color…I LOVE color. So much so, I would literally change the color of my rooms every year if I didn’t hate painting so much. So I guess you can call me a color snob. Cast your stones at me you white walled people..but I must have color. I often thank the Lord for the ability to see because color is so grand to my senses.

So you can imagine my dismay when we found our house last Christmas but had to see past the hunter green wrapped around it like a cruel color joke mocking me every time I pulled up to our new home. I patiently waited for the weather to warm up and for the right time to rally the troops for color justice. My dream is almost complete. After 10 tiring hours of painting they did call it quits with about 20% of the house left. It is okay, I can live with the slice of green left on one side of the house because I know it’s fate.

So here are my wenches hard at work.

almost done riding the world of another 1986 hunter green catastrophe

I think Jamie often mistook my house and scaffolding as a rock wall because he would hang off it painting hard to reach places. Guess he forgot he has a wife and kids at home and it is no time to showboat!

Look at justice being served to that green.

My two pain wenches

The joy of owning an old home…no central air. That would be our BIG investment into this house, a nice shiny heat pump for central air. What a glorious day that will be.

Big project to save up for....a heat pump for central air...someday

Here is our little cottage. Ain’t she cute? Red door and landscaping up next for the fall. Can’t wait!

My favorite, our big porch.

Newly painted porch floor and stairs

Our non-hanging, hanging swing. It was in the ceiling until one night it gave a little jerk on one side. As not to tempt fate, we took it down. We have yet to buy longer screws. Just one more errand on the list that seems to take months to fulfill. sigh…..

Bennett is in utter shock over something. His chins are killing me, I love it.

That is all I can muster between incessant episodes of Gilmore Girls. I am almost on season four now…plowing through them. I will be out of Stars Hallow in the next two weeks just in time for fall shows to start again.

How was your Labor Day or for you Canadians who do not celebrate Labour Day….how was your weekend?
