You may remember our AWESOME, and what I mean by awesome is CRAPPY, surprise 7 days after we moved into our house where we had a “minor” (major) plumbing issue which caused all sorts of stress and drama….yet we ended up saving up enough to get an awesome bathroom renovation and new dry wall ceilings in the kitchen. I never did “after” photos of our kitchen.
Now let me preface this by saying the positives about our kitchen:
1-IT IS HUGE!!!
2-I love having an island to work off of
3-It has lots of windows, which I love
4-Lots of storage space
5-It has great wainscoting
6-IT IS HUGE!! (We had a galley kitchen in our last house, so I feel like I died and went to heaven.)
The cons:
1-The linoleum. It looks like a really ugly church kitchen floor that perpetually looks filthy and then the not so swift guy that was working on our ceilings dripped purple DYE on them. Let’s take something ugly and make it crappier…AWESOME!
Exhibit A:
2-The appliances. Gas stove that is in just so so shape and the worlds tiniest refrigerator….I HATE my refrigerator. I have envy of two of my friends massive, stainless steal fridges. SIGH…..someday.
3- The back splash on the sink and stove….the grout is NAST!
Exhibit B
4- The counter tops….cheap is as cheap does. The island looks like it has press board on it. Just cheap.
5- The sink and faucet. It is old, stained and the drain looks like a sewer pipe!
Now before you think I am ungrateful or “why did you get the house”. We LOVE our house. but…BUT it is old! So we knew going into it that we would need to love on the bathroom and kitchen which, let’s be honest, you will get your money back tenfold when you go to sell.
So future plans (hopefully in the fall…fingers crossed) we will get tiled floors, mosaic tile back splash, new counter tops, new porcelain sink and a sweet bronze faucet. The cabinets need to be painted and lacquered and the open cabinets need glass doors. OF course a NEW fridge!!!!
So here it is in it’s current state. Cute…just not polished. The potential is endless!
Can we draw attention to my favorite view in the morning…..
My wonderful husband is the first up (relatively speaking) and makes the coffee…just another reason to love him. I can walk straight into the kitchen and have warm, sweet coffee in my throat 30 seconds later. THANKS RY!!!
My window herb garden…let’s hope it is dummy proof. No green thumb here.
So there you have it. Just another peek into our cozy little cottage. Cheers!

can I tell you how I ADORE your little coffee nook? I need one of those.
I love that you said “nast”; that is such a “me” word. my bro and sis make fun of me for saying it and my brother always says: “Yeah, cuz’ it’s too hard to say that extra letter…it takes too much time.”
dang straight.
anyway I feel you on the kitchen woes; our fridge broke last year and we *had* to get a new one.
It’s black and lovely. Stainless isn’t for me because of fingerprints; the black is a great solution. But one day I’ll get new countertops cuz’ ours are old, cheap, skanky!
As per your usual, it’s fantastic. I want to come over for coffee- and I don’t even DRINK coffee!
i LOVE wainscotting… whatever that is. i don’t care what it is… I LOVE IT!!!
LOVE IT!!!
Love the color on the walls! My counter tops are very similar, ugghh.
I missed the 5 things about myself previously (seeing as how I read your blog, you can know a bit about me), so here goes:
1) I love to be outside. Hiking, walking, anywhere, just outside.
2) I am an encourager, and lover of people.
3) I’m waiting/praying for my background investigation to clear, so I can be a Probation Officer
4) I love teeth - first thing I notice in people
5) I can’t go 5 minutes w/out drinking water
Enjoy your kids today!
You and your hubby are very ambitious! I am excited to see what you do with this space.
I absoutley love the colour of your kitchen!…what is it called? I know, I know, some people think that colour looks a bit like baby poop, but not yet having little ones yet means that I still adore that colour (especially with the white).
The kitch is great! I adore the color and decor. I, too hate my small fridge! It looks just like yours.
I can’t wait to get home and see my new kitchen that Jack has renovated while I’ve been away!
love it! i can’t wait to see you pimp it out later this year. i actually wan a smaller fridge. we had a teeny one in korea and i just loved it! i love buying fresh every day or two and i hate the energy hog that our landlord has kindly provided us in this house. that and our ten gallon toilet… i feel guilty using it! haha.
I love the fabric for the curtain and placemats. That was the same, yes? It looks really cute. Don’t you love home ownership, there is never a lack of things to upgrade or spend money on!
ooh, I love your coffeemaker. I just happen to be shopping for a new one.
your kitchen is so clean that i think i might just have to boycot your blog. UGH!
and you might have some things that YOU think look yucky up close, but from a distance, the overall look of your kitchen is AWESOME. you have done an A job decorating it and making it very very pretty (once again) until you get the massive upgrade in the FALL.
and we are still waiting on our stainless fridge too. our kitchen has the other stainless appliances at least, but we couldn’t afford the fridge when we moved in…don’t know when it will be high enough on the list of priorities either, espcially when we have a fridge that works.
Not only are you a talented photographer, you are such a talented designer! Can you fly out next spring and help me out? We are moving then, and I could really use your help!
You think your kitchen is bad?? just walk two houses down and take a look at mine. My house is a work in progress too. You can tell that curbside alone!! Oh well, time and money… I have neither of..
I’m glad you have the get-up-and-go to want to redo the kitchen - when we were looking for a new house I just wanted one with a new kitchen. As it is it looks like we’ll need a new oven soon. Boo hoo. I love the size of yours. I hear you about the galley kitchen - too small!!
I say this every time you post photos of your house:
1. You are amazing.
2. Can you come work you magic in my hovel?
Your house makes my hate my own. You’re terrible.
I don’t “really” know you…But I truely love you so much that I hate you. LMAO
MY GOD….I WOULD GIVE MY KIDS UP FOR THAT KITCHEN! Well not really, but just maybe. Your decorating style makes me salvate! That is exactly how I wish any room in my house looked. Its absolutely beautiful.
(Mopping)
this kitchen is so much better than your old kitchen. it looks this good now…i can’t wait to see it when you make the improvements!
Hi Kelly,
Just got back from the beach, so I am catching up on all my blog readings.
I haven’t forgot about you and will send you the 31 ways to pray for your kids….It has been a crazy month for us. I feel like we have barely been in our home.
Love your HUGE kitchen. I have a galley kitchen and would love one day to have an island, but for now, I will be content will my little ally. You definitely have LOTS of potential with the kitchen. We just go the cork in our kitchen and I AM IN LOVE WITH IT!!!
I still need to comment on the 5 things about me post….I will get on that.
PS-totally understand your editing/busy life. It is so hard with a full time job, but you guys are DOING SO GREAT and I am so happy that your business is doing so well. I just wish we could have you guys take a family shoot of us. How sad, Abel is almost 14 months and we still haven’t done one yet…..
I totally understand your kitchen woes, we also live in an old house and knew the kitchen would need some work. I think we had the same counter tops as you - who thought fake butcher block was good idea? We recently had granite tops installed and did our own backsplash - it looks great and wasn’t that hard to do. Next on our list are the nasty, dirty, never look clean floors and a new fridge. Good luck wiht the renovation!
You are a decorating guru. Wanna come decorate my house?
