So all this fundus measuring really really did mean something.
It appears I am rearing a giant. Well not really a giant, but definitely a big ole baby! We had an ultrasound yesterday which was SOOOOO fun to see him so formed and full. Even though it wasn’t a 3D ultrasound, you could see so much definition. Of course it would come in and out and the dialog went something like this.
“Oh he is cute.”
“OOOOHHHHH…does he have a big nose?”
“Oh man look at those lips…so full!”
“whoa….are his eyes funky?”
“Is he cute, I can’t tell?”
“Oh he is cute….yeah”
“Whoa, whose nose is that…is there something crazy about his nose?”
I know..completely superficial. We didn’t see his face until all organs and bones were checked..so we aren’t that shallow, we really just want a healthy baby, that is all we can ask the Lord for. The rest is cream. Can I just say the tech saw hair too. Doesn’t look like as much as Chloe…but hair…glorious hair!
So basically from second to second we would get a good idea of what Bennett kinda looked like and then it would get all funky and skeletal looking and you would scrunch your eyes trying to make out features. On the whole, it was so freaking exciting I was ready for him to come out immediately so we could kiss those big lips. Check these out. He has his arms in front of his face and his head is tilted back…but you can see his plump lips (thanks Ryan…way to shoot some good lips into the mix)
At one point there were two gigantic circles on the screen…I was like. “Ummmmm…is that his”….and the ultrasound tech goes, “testicles…yes!” This tech is our favorite, she is hilarious, laid back, gives us tons of photos and has been there through all our Chloe scare a few years ago..we love her. So what does she do for the two juvenile parents giggling at the screen with their sons testicles blown up 200%….she types “Bennett’s jewels” and prints us a picture. Now that’s a keeper! I will spare you the photo.
Here is a sorta face shot. Again, this isn’t a 3D shot so shadows and depth of field are a little funky. He has the classic alien eye look.
So let’s cut to the chase…what is going on in my belly? Well it goes a little something like this..HIT IT! What song intro is that? I can’t place it.
Anyway, I am ridiculously tired today so my brain is scrambled you are lucky I am even focused enough to type this.
In order to get an estimate of size and weight they measure the diaphragm, skull and femur. His head and stomach all measured 37 weeks, 1 day (mama ain’t near that far along.) His legs measured where they should be. Go figure…the legs WHICH DON’T HURT TO BIRTH are normal and the noggin WHICH CAN TEAR YOU STEM TO STEARN is measuring big. Lucky me. They estimate his current weight at 6.5lbs and his overall measurements in the 80th percentile. So he is very big, but not off the charts big.
Now here is the part where all moms will be weighing in their opinions….this is the word that seems to make peoples hair stand up on end….INDUCEMENT! Yes…the “I” word is in the mix. Not what you think though. Basically, they are letting me go all the way till the week of my due date and hope that Bennett decides to come out on his own (Chloe came 4 days early…so this is a good possibility) If he does not come on his own over the next 3-3.5 weeks…then I will be scheduled for an inducement NOT c-section before my due date. They do not want me to go past my due date because he is big and I am small. The good thing is, my doctor is actually scheduled to be at the hospital April 28th…so I am hoping and praying that Bennett comes that day or if they end up scheduling me for an inducement the week of my due date that we will go on that day.
So there you have it. I know I am going to get some serious opinions on this whole inducement thing…but remember…unless you are donating your vagina to birth my son….it really is what is best for the two of us and my body may very well cooperate and go naturally on it’s own before May 3rd. I hope, I hope!!!!

Hey! I was JUST THINKING about you and Bennett at the end of my walk - and I was going to call you to get the scoop. Ah, the beauty of a blog.
I dunno what the deal is with 3-D, but these are the first ultrasound pictures I’ve EVER been able to tell ANYTHING from! (No wonder I’ve never been sold on getting one of my own) And of course I’m jealous… (My friend Lyndsay said to not feel bad if I end up changing my mind about getting an ultrasound…it’s getting more and more likely, honestly! How great to SEE your child already!).
Inducing…hmmm… I have no particular opinion about this. I guess I would just trust your doctors and pray like crazy that he comes on time! Of course it’s always better to let your body run its course, but that’s not always possible (or the best method). All I can say is take to the stairs as much as possible and do lots of squats!

Look how cute he is! can’t wait to see the real thing!
Awww…. he’s soo cute!! What a plump little guy you’ll have and it will be such joy to love all over him!! Speaking from experience, there’s something about those bigger newborns. It’s as if they aren’t as fragile! Which is nice, because for some reason the dads and grandfathers usually think you have to play rough with them as close to birth as possible! I can’t wait until the beginning of next month! I’ll be anxiously awaiting lots of details and tons of pictures! Plus, I’ll be keeping your family in my prayers. I think if you don’t go before your DD then you’ll be very happy with the induction. I was induced 1 week early with my first and other than labor being magnified (nothing that a good ole epidural can’t fix! lol) my labor was pretty short for a first birth. My sons on the other hand were gigantic bambinos thus c-sections times 2 for me. Well… don’t keep us all in suspense now please… I’ll keep checking for updates! Best Wishes…. ~Heather
That face! So cute.
And no, not offering my vagina, so you should do what is best for you and Benny. Can we call him Benny?
And, remember when I told you I wished I was pregnant? Well, I am! Only a little pregnant, 7 weeks.
The “hit it” is a sample from an old Slick Rick Song, most notably used in DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince’s hit song, “Too Damn Hype” off their 1989 release “And in This Corner…”.
That’s why you married me. Right there.
…and because of my lips.
So glad that the ultrasound went well and that you got some great pictures. Isn’t it amazing to see how BIG they are near full-term to compare with the itty-bitty baby you first saw in the u/s?
I wouldn’t worry about the Induction debate. Do what’s best for you and little Benny (sorry, my cousin Bennett gets Benny as a nick name). God has a plan for your little man’s arrival… I was induced with Hunter and, though the labour was wretched (as labour can be), the end result is well-worth whatever pain… (in my humble opinion). So stoked to “meet” your little guy!
I got a different “Hit It” but yes, Sheryl Crow also… I get the beat-boppy one. “…… to end all your woes, your ups your downs your high and your lows….. it’s like that, and that’s the way it is”
Well, if his lungs are formed (at 36 or 37 weeks gestational) then he’s ready to come out! I’m not opposed to induction, especially if you’re talking the safety & well-being of mama (and her girly parts).
And these pics are the most detailed I have ever seen! I think you got better 2D shots that I paid for with my 3D ones! LOVE those lips & thank you for sparing us his jewels.
I’m all for whatever the doctor says. No advice here! I have faith everything will go perfectly - I mean, how perfect is little Bennett? He is so cute!
And I know that “and it goes a little something like this, hit it” from En Vogue’s version of “yesterday” in the 90s. Could that be what you’re thinking of? Man, I gotta go get out that CD.
And I’m six months Sunday! Hubby felt baby boy kick last night for the first time. You couldn’t slap the grin off his face.
I think it is wonderful that he seems healthy! He looks so cute in the face shot.
I’ll pray he comes early.
By the way, I got your Fabric today at IKEA!!! YAY!!! I’ll send it out soon.
Graham was 9 pounds, 12 ounces ON HIS DUE DATE. He came out and gave me a nice fourth degree tear as a thank you for birthing him.
Because of all that, I was induced 10 days early with both Nathan and Emily. I LOVED IT. It was fast, “easy” (two pushes each), and they were still a healthy 8/4 and 8/5.
I love Bennett’s lips
No comment on inducing or my experience. While reading the “Stem to Stearn” notation, I may have cried out. Just a little.
Inducement is inducement - if it gets the baby out it’s done what it is supposed to. Sure it is more full on (I’ve had both induced labour and natural labour) but the main thing is getting the baby out safely, and keeping the mum safe too. To me though, it looks like those lips would be the biggest bit of the head to fit through that exceptionally small opening!
AHHHHHHHHHHHH! look at those LIPS! i wanna KISS THEM!!!!!! he’s so cute already! and since it ain’t my vajajay, i will say nothing. hope it goes smoothly and early! kisses!!!!!
I was induced and it was WONDERFUL! I pray that everything goes as well next time. However, you will hear MANY MANY more stories about people that have been induced that are the complete opposite.
If your already starting to dialate on your own (i was 3cm for over 3 weeks), i think being induced is the way to go. I got to get my epidural before they started giving me pitocin (the medicine that makes you go into full labor). i was having some minor contractions on my own for weeks - so i think i was ready.
However, my poor cousin was induced when she was overdue, she wasn’t ready, but she was overdue - so they induced. Anyway, she was on pitocin for two days and they had to keep putting some medicine inside her to get everything ready. It was horrible for her. but in the end, she still got her beautiful little girl, and that’s all that really matters in the end!
but your doctor will do what he/she thinks is best for you and your baby. hopefully everything will go very smoothly for you kelly! good luck.
I vote thumbs down on “Benny”.
Bennett is such a wicked name… and Benny makes me think of Benny Hinn.
It’s just wrong.
Please come with me on this one.
Love, love, love the sono photos. Oh, his lips are perfect!
Hopefully, Bennett will arrive on his own. But, induction is nothing to fear. My first was natural and my second and third were both inductions. Easy as pie and the pain was no worse than the natural birth. I can’t wait to see the little guy.
You def. don’t know me but I pop on occasionally to read.
My sister in law was induced for both her kids because she is narrow and they were big. One time it went well the other they induced early and my nephew ended up sick because his lungs weren’t developed. That doesn’t seem to be the case with you. Like you know - do what feels right! Plenty of people are induced - both my niece and newphew were - they are a little wierd but that has more to do with their genes than the inducement.
He’s a beaut!!!
I just hope your both safe and healthy through it all. I think birth is soooo personal and each one is soooo different - I have three children who came into the world in very, very different ways. I hope you are getting some rest - no more long walks…
Handsome little dude he is but then look who his mommy and daddy are. I wish you would post a picture of how you look right now.
My last baby weighed 10.3 and that is when I decided I was done having babies…lol No inducement either. Walked funny for a week.
Why do I have to comment? I wasn’t going to, I promise, and yet here I am in the comment section. I guess if you know anything about me, I do have an opinion. Contrary to the other 20 comments, I say au naturale, if that is even how you spell it! I won’t go into all the detail, since I am clearly not donating my vagina and that was the prerequisite to the opinion forum
I would just suggest a little google search of induction risks. I’m stopping there.
As for this blog, I LOVE IT! I think you are stinking hilarious and Chloe is a doll and Ryan seems great. Sounds like you guys are doing so well. I’m jealous you got to see Chrissy-that’s awesome. Keep us updated on little Bennett. I think of the trunk of your Grandpa’s every time you talk about him. I have more photo ?’s for you but maybe I should wait to after baby’s born–or is now a better time? love ya girl!
I say go for the induction. I work labour and delivery and was induced for my second and third babies (my first was way worse and it wasn’t induced). Labour hurts no matter how you look at it so if induction gives you the best chance at a vaginal delivery then that is great. Second labours are usually quicker anyways and you can always get an epidural. Good luck! By the way, ultrasounds are not always accurate when it comes to the size of your baby. Most come out smaller.
Our Ben has the hugest lips too. That’s all we could see on his ultrasound. HUGE LIPS. So cute. Induction isn’t all that bad. Hurts way more but is also way faster. Tit for tat. Funny that youse Americans call it inducement…we Canayjuns say induction. Wierd.
Maybe he’ll come like two weeks early and be all little and cute. Fingers crossed and prayers going up for you guys.
Isn’t it cute that our hubby’s are emailing?
Those are the best ultrasound pictures I’ve ever seen! I haven’t had any since 20 weeks and I’m due TODAY. Boo hoo - no baby yet. I have an US scheduled for next Wednesday, but I’m praying that I will actually see baby in the flesh before then!
Hoping your induction goes well, if you do get one. You have to do what’s best for you and the babe!
wow. so I’ve done some official calculations. If we were to apply your stats to my 6′0 frame, my child would be 17.3lbs at this point and I would be sporting a 9.17′ circumference. You are amazing!
I was induced with Charlie, and will likely be induced this time around as well. With Charlie I was having kidney issues and it was either hard core narcotics until delivery, or inducing at 37.5 weeks. Good thing we went for the induction, because at 6#10ox. he was too large to fit through my pelvis (I am also a whopping 5′2″ on a good day) and we had a failed vacuum attempt and then onto a forcep delivery. All is well that ends well, he was healthy, I was fine and beyond pitocin contractions being out of this world strong it was a fairly easy labor.
I love the u/s photos. Look at those lovely lips. What a pupmpkin!
Take care of yourself Kelly, can’t wait to hear that he’s made it here safely!
Oh my gosh - what a cutie! He’s a heartbreaker already. So, I thought that the intro Hit It came from the song that goes, “you gotta fight for your right to parrrrrrty” Apparently “hit it” is in a lot of intro’s.
Very exciting! I am missing those days so I am living through you! Good luck! p.s. that is the intro to parents just don’t understand DJ Jazzy Jeff!
