Winter in Virginia

Well we had two little mini snows earlier in the year. So mini that they were here and gone in the span of one nap time. I have wanted Chloe to see a snowfall and experience the wonder of snow on her tongue. Today we finally got a decent snowfall…..like significant enough that even Ryan got a half day…whoo hoo!

So I picked the warmest and yet most hideous outfit I could find for Chloe and we ventured out for a few minutes this morning. She looks like a homeless little 80’s child. Never you mind that I looked like a girl who partied too hard last night. You know where you don’t take off your makeup so the black under your eyes is half way down your face….yeah…that was her classy mom.

Here are some highlights.

What do you think of your first snow Chloe? Thumbs up huh?

Good times, good times...thumbs up!

Actually it was really cute, when she first walked outside she just stopped dead and watched the snowfall and then puckered her little lips and kept saying, “Ooooooh, oooooooh, oooooooooooooh.”

Mommy showing her that snow is not poison.

Mommy will eat some first to show you

Now you try.

Not sure she likes the cold feeling

Too cold…yuck!

She liked crunching around on the snow

Sweet mom sweatpants Chloe. You got cheeks for miles. Love the tapered ankle and ultra white sneaks! I can’t believe I dressed her like this, it absolutely cracks me up.

I let her sit in the snow and touch it a little bit. She just kept scrunching it up in her hands. Not sure what she needed to do.

Tactile test

I just have to share that even though we live in a small town in the south doesn’t mean we don’t have professional breaking news. Why I found this earth shattering, front page article on our local news website this morning. The article is titled, “Area prepares for wet winter.” We learn all about how Walmart stocks up on milk and bread for these emergency situations…then they share about salt trucks and clearing the roads. I found this tid bit the most helpful.

Reynolds - “It could become treacherous. Hoping it don’t, but we’ll be ready. We’ll be out there for you.”

Whewwwww…I was worried. But thanks to Mr. Reynolds hoping it don’t become treacherous…I feel better now! I mean I know you are quoting someone, but could we clean up the grammar just a smidge…just a scoach?

I hate to admit it, but Ryan and I have actually found grand enjoyment in watching the local 11:00pm news and counting the mistakes. It ranges from horrible reading mistakes, awkward pauses, the wrong video playing behind them or the pathetic “eye witness” clips they throw in. Those are the best. You show a tragic accident and then it cuts to a neighbor with hardly any teeth and they literally show a 2 second clip of them saying, “He weren’t watchin’ where he was goin’, he done near ran the stop sign and hit the guard rail clean off.” Hmmmmm….you don’t say. Isn’t that what the reporter just told us but with better grammar? I am so glad you were interviewed and they took the time to splice in your 2 seconds of keen observations. Oh central Virginia. Gotta love it!

I will close this ultra fun post with a few pictures of my little lady watching her Baby Einstein. I swear she plays with toys, but I let her watch her video twice a day. She really makes herself at home in her little chair. I particularly love how ladylike she is in her skirt and tights. Such an aire of mystery surrounds her.

Chillin like a villian. Always the lady in her skirt and tights

Ok, first of all, adorable pictures of Chloe in the snow, it is so cute to watch them try to figure it out.

I am right there with you on the local news, I think Channel 13 is the worst. I almost wet my pants laughing last night at the report on why the store shelves were so empty. The reporter tried to interview a very elderly (and panicked lady) and asked “Why is it so important to get stocked up?” Then the little old lady shouted, in a voice I can only describe as crazed, “Because you need it! On account of the cold weather.” It was hilarious!

Chloe is too cute in her chair, I can’t believe how big she’s gotten!

snow rules. i think we might get a little on saturday. woo!

I forgot to comment on the last post about “the elephant on your chest” saying. That is EXACTLY how I feel when my house is a mess. It’s that Professional Organizer in me and my New Year’s Res. was to try and relax even when there may be a piece of paper lying around that isn’t filed or worst-the whole house is a mess!!!

    Now for this post.
Love the sweatpants on Chloe. I think she looks adorable. And I’m sad to say, but since we live in the DC area the reporters rarely make mistakes. However, when we visit smaller towns, Seth and I really enjoy watching the local news station. One time we got snowed in at Gettysburg, PA (the one year it snowed 2 feet) and we watched the news all day long and just died laughing.

:::wow, this comment is getting long::: But I still have more to say. :)
But, I have one more funny story about news reporting that I know you will enjoy. So, since we “tend” to have the high class reporters it is fun when you do see them making a mistake. When we had the sniper running around here, there was no time to practice since shootings where happening constantly (that was a scary time here). Anyway, so they cut to a reporter on the field, but the reporter was totally unaware that the camera started rolling. As they panned towards him, you see he spit out his gum and then pick the BIGGEST wedgie. He then looks at the camera all serious. It was the best ever! The camera crew tried to turn the camera away when they realized what was happening, but it was too late!

Ha! Everytime I go home, I read the newspaper and count the mistakes! It’s RIDICULOUS!!! I thought they had editors for that, but apparently not.

Mkay, Chloe looks adorable in anything you put her in, but I’m so jealous of your snow! We got nasty wet cold rain, but no stankin snow!
Check out the 2 “flashback” pics I just put on my Flickr. I will happily loan Chloe our snow bunny outfit, okay? Then she can roll in her luckiness of snow.

Chloe looks so big in her big girl chair!! :)

I thought Northern Virginia was the only place tortured by bad news anchors!!

I’m glad that you got to enjoy the snow together. I watch for mistakes in our “free” paper, too. Love her little outfit!

    Cute pictures as always…
Hey do u have a bride named Blair that you’re shooting for this year? I don’t know her last name…

I’ve done a fantastic job of recruiting for you in the Lynchburg General MICU. I think every girl on night shift has pored over your website and then told all of her BFF’s about it. I don’t even know this girl Blair but apparently she is one of our recruits.

    Alrighty then.

I HATE winter, but LOVE your snow shots!

I love her. Such joy in the snow, such class in her round little chair. What a kid.

i love chloe’s chilled mood in front of the t.v. and i love your camera and the images you capture!

Awww MAN! Your quoting the Lynchburg news makes me homesick! haha We enjoy our 11 o’ clock news here as well. Our weather man has got to be the dumbest person on the planet. Example: He does the Harrisonburg weather, then the state, THEN says, “Now let’s head to the EAST of us and see what’s going on in Oklahoma…”

    WHAT?!!!!!

    Cute pics btw!!!

oh my gosh. the news thing. My sister in law is a reporter in Tulsa - and MAN. some of the “eye witness” accounts they get are just insane. And she has to remain professional and take down what they’re saying and ask questions - my favorite stories lately, can’t remember where it was about this group of people in a low-income neighborhood who all claimed to see a LEPRACHAUN in a big tree. have you seen that? search for it on YouTube, absolutely money.

and Virginia has always cracked me up with how they halt life for 2 inches of snow. people i could do that in my sleep! 2 inches wouldn’t even stop me from going to the beach!! ok maybe. but still - a half day for Ryan? Stocking up on bread and milk at Walmart???? oh man.

Chloe’s TV pictures - insanely gorgeous.

So cute! I love her outfit! Jack and I did the same thing yesterday. He was fascinated by the snowballs we could make.

I have to reiterate a question someone asked the first time you showed pics of your new house - how in the heck do you keep it so orderly? Jack would not be sitting in the papasan chair, but instead would have pulled every book off of that low bookshelf, uprooted the plant, and tried to eat the candles in front of the fireplace. He does this kind of thing on a daily basis! Did you just have to say “NO!” until you were blue in the face, or are girls really not as destructive as boys? Anyway, just a warning for you: watch out when Bennett comes, and an encouragement for me: if we’re having a girl, I might actually get to have a bookshelf…or a plant! :)

I can’t stand to watch the local news — it makes me crazy.

My favorite thing about living in central VA is the day off I got yesterday!

everyone needs these pictures. i mean, i was squealing. donna marie came into the room and squealed with me. (i’m sitting here waiting to go to the wake and needed some comic relief….)
she is beautiful. even in her mom sweatpants.

  18. 18 Rachel Jan 18th, 2008 at 12:15 pm

OMG Kelly!, she really does look so much like your pictures of Ryan when she is sitting in that chair! To cute!

  19. 19 chrissy Jan 18th, 2008 at 12:18 pm

ps: i still heart the burg. oh man. that’s good. i remember waiting tables and people ordering ‘beef faj-eye-tas.’ dear. lord.

  20. 20 Heather H Jan 18th, 2008 at 2:03 pm

You guys are amazing with the picture-taking thing. Or the editing. Or both. Not sure. Those photos are awesome.

Second - the grab-whatever-is-the-warmest outfit is a near-daily occurrence in the Great White North, so it was lucky you pointed out the craziness of Chloe’s outfit, I seriously wouldn’t have noticed. I’m already trying to plan my teaching outfits around the fact that I have to walk through the cold, cold weather to get to my classes and still manage to look somewhat classy.

Third - I miss the ‘burg, and the news in the ‘burg. Seriously, that’s some good stuff.

What’s wrong with her snow outfit? I go to Walmart like that all time. Jk…sort of…

And I love her in the chair - that is hysterical. Her hair looks so thick in that picture! She looks like a little english baby…does that make sense? I’m very hungry so it’s hard to think.

  22. 22 Prue Jan 18th, 2008 at 10:16 pm

Sometimes I wish we got snow, and then I remember I hate the cold. Aaah, winter in Sydney… except it’s summer here now!

  23. 23 Jude Jan 20th, 2008 at 8:35 am

Hello! So much to comment about…where to start? A big love in I think. I love the hat. I love the first glimpse of Bennet - so much clearer than when i had Lily 4 and half years ago. Love the brass tap-ware. Love the HUGE cupboard. Love the little chairs and table - very “Wendy’s nursery” from Peter Pan. It was 32c here today…I would love to eat the snow!!!!

Oh these pictures are so cute of Chloe. I love her from afar! We never finished our conversation but I’m still looking forward to it! Love you!
