I got nothing, nada, zilch. I can’t think of one stinking good title. I bet some of you thought I was milking this delurking thing for all it was worth. I promise you I was not! I only blog 2-3 times a week anyway and by Saturday I thought…ummmm…”Kelly, you need to write a new post because that one is really dated”…BUT then I was tired, busy and I just didn’t care and I also thought to myself, “Self, you have your first ultrasound Monday. Won’t your throngs of readers (hello newbie commenter’s, I love you!) want to see Porty’s first picture?” So yes, wasn’t it worth the wait?
Here is little Porty in all his/her glory. I was blown away by the detail and the movement in this baby!!! I could have watched all afternoon. Wow, legs and arms all over the place, not nubs, full arms, feet, legs and hands. it was AWESOME! Of course from the angle of this picture it looks like a baby turtle.
Don’t you love my scanning skills? I don’t have a clue in the world how to use a scanner…and…cough, cough, we don’t have ours back from somebody who borrowed it many moons ago, cough, cough. So I used my noggin and thought….aha…take a picture of a picture! Can we say COLLEGE DEGREE!
I know you second time moms probably had the same thought, especially if yours are close together, deja vu! I walked into Dr. Baker’s office (we all know how much I LOVE my doctor…he is the best!) and instantly I was transported back to last year at this time. He walked in and said, “Back so soon? Isn’t your first less than a year?” I told him that I wanted to see him so bad that I worked an unexpected pregnancy in to speed up the process. Anyway, not only did I have the pleasure of a pap smear and the finger to the uterus check, but I also got a vaginal ultrasound, not a tummy one. VIOLATED! My mom and Ryan were cutting up with Dr. Baker the whole time. You ever laugh with a metal duck bill in your most sensitive of spots? I don’t recommend it. Anywho. The baby is perfect, the heartbeat strong, and I have to say it…..I am SO EXCITED! It is just wonderful, what fears, anxieties, and grief I had a few weeks ago were completely lifted and joy and excitement came flooding in.
We kept joking that I wasn’t really preganant and that really wasn’t my baby on the screen, they just have videos they pop in of babies to trick you…but seriously, I am thrilled! I came home and showed Chloe her new sibling and I have been taking her hand and patting my belly saying, “baby” over and over. “We’re really doing it Har!” (Dumb and Dumber for you scratching your heads.)
So although I really had no clue in the world when I had had my last period, my guesstimate was almost 100%. I thought I was 10 wks, 2 days and Porty measured 10 weeks, 4 days. Dr. Baker is sticking with my due date of May 4th!!!! 18 months to the day of Chloe’s birthday. Can you freaking believe it? I was telling my mom when I was driving home how quickly life changes. June 2008 will mark four years since Ryan and I started dating. Who knew four years later I would have two kids by then! Remember that you singles who feel like it will never happen. Your whole life can change in an instant.
I was asked what I thought about The Office so far. I have to say, I am a little disappointed. It isn’t like I haven’t laughed, but nothing like I normally do. They screwed with a lot of my favorite chemistries. Like Jim and Dwight…they aren’t fighting at all, I love Dwight and Angella’s “secret” romance and now it is over and I am really ticked we didn’t get the pleasure of seeing how Jim and Pam got together…it is magically 2 months later, not even a teensy weensy flashback? Come on! And Ryan, he is a total dill now and I loved the way he used to interact with Michael. I know they are just setting up the season and I know it will get better but I give it a B- so far. Now Grey’s Anatomy on the other hand. Just when I thought it couldn’t possibly get any stupider…..It TOTALLY REDEEMED ITSELF! (That too is Dumb and Dumber…come on people) I have REALLY enjoyed Grey’s the last 2 weeks, so much better than last season. My other new fav is Pushing Daisies. Brilliant, different, funny, and sweet! I really enjoyed the season premiere.
Lastly, to close this mini novel. We said goodbye to a very dear person in our lives. Ryan’s brother, Sam, leaves today for Afghanistan for an 8 month tour. This is his third time back there. He loves it, he loves being a green beret, but we are all entrusting him into the Lord’s care while he is gone. He asked if we would take pictures of him and his girlfriend, Brittany, before they left. So we squeezed yet another photo shoot in this weekend. WE NEED A BREAK or at least hire some people to edit. So slammed right now. Truly it is our pleasure to shoot Sam, he is so ridiculously good to Ryan, Chloe and I. We love you Sammy! So enjoy the young love. I am sorry they are so ugly, you can bleach your eyeballs when you are done.
and of course….a jump. It completes the session.
I want to hear from any of my readers who are in the “Family way”. When are you due? Let’s stick together, yeah, yeah, yeah…gonna have a real good ti-ime!

what a beautiful couple. may he stay safe!
I’m “in the family way” as you put it. I like to milk it with my husband and say “in my delicate condition I can’t. . .(insert household chore here).” I’m seven weeks 5 days and due approximately May 29th. I still have another week and a half until my first ultrasound, so we’ll know more then. This is my first, and it’s been surprisingly easy. Oops, I probably shouldn’t have typed that out loud. Amen on your Office analysis btw.
I want to be in the family way! Sometimes.
Yay, on being excited for number two!
I like your ode to the “Parent Trap”
Goodness! Do they look like a model couple or what?
Due Date: January 10th. It is vastly approaching and my belly is getting bigger and the movements are more powerful.
First time pregnancy. I am about 5 weeks. Due approx. June 1st. My first vaginal ultra sound is Oct. 15th. Morning Sickness all day- everyday- Yuck! Any remedies?
I can’t believe Porty is already that big! I am so happy for you that you are thrilled and excited now about Porty and your fears are gone. And Praise God Porty is looking healthy. Wow, May 4th. Spring babies Rock!
We’ll be praying for Sam.
Lovely ultrasound!
I’m glad you said that about The Office. I watched for the first time last week and I did not get the appeal. Jim’s adorable though.
Wishing him much safety, they are a lovely couple
My girls are 18 months apart, it’s so much fun !! (on the days where I’m not pulling my hair out but I can attest that has nothing to due with the 18 month time gap and everything to do with just being SIBLINGS HA!)
My people were in talks with his people about being in the family way again. Negotiations are currently stalled, but I’ll keep you posted.
He’ll be in my prayers - hey, maybe the BoSox will wi…NO, I’m not going to tempt fate!!
Yeah, Sam and his girlfriend are hideous; couldn’t they at least fake being in love?Sheesh!
Seeing Porty’s beautiful first picture took me back to seeing Lily for the first time. I thing I’m going to have to get my people talking to his people again. Oh, and I love, love, LOVE Pushing Daisies!!
sam & brittany look so sweet. i think it’s so strange that the youngest baumes and portnoy are the ones halfway around the world. i’m 30 and it scares the crap out of me.
your office analysis = exactly what i was thinking, but didn’t know how to put it. there’s supposedly gonna to be a utica branch sometime this season. whoo-hooo! finally utica, ny is making a name for itself.
OMG….how freaking adorable!! such a baby turtle
i think my favorite part about these really early sonograms is how the arms and legs look like little marbles….and the head is huge! what a special time and i’m really thrilled that you’ve come around and feel excited!!! WOO HOOOO PORTY!
2 firsts in one blog! My first look at “Porty”, and the first time I’ve seen a picture of MY baby kissing a girl. Excuse me Brittany, WOMAN!!!
Glad to hear you’re feeling excited about Porty! That pic is so cute! (You gotta love the ol’ trans-vag, don’t ya? My favorite part is the freaking condom they put on it - just to make you feel that much more uncomfortable…ugh! The first time I had one, the tech actually handed the thing to ME to insert. Weird-o-rama!)
I agree on the assessment of this season of The Office, and I’m glad to hear your feedback on Pushing Daisies. The adverts have intrigued me, but I haven’t watched it yet. I also find 30 Rock to be pretty funny.
Baby Tully #2 is due April 4th. You haven’t mentioned morning sickness, so I’m hoping you’re not feeling any. This pg was much worse than my first and I’m thankful that I’m starting to feel some relief this week.
“In the Family Way” here!… about 9 wks 4 days… EDD 5/11… yay!
I love the little turtle picture!… mine was so early all they noted was “baby” and “york sac”… yeah… it’s a “york sac” instead of a “yolk sac”
yeah!! i’m so happy! unhy kij lmihl… eh hem…so is caleb! i can not believe how many may birthdays are in our family. brittany is gorgeous. those pics are fun. i’m so glad you found time to do that for them.
congrats! your baby is adorable. haha.
i also loved pushing daisies… it was really fun to watch.
I can feel your excitement from here! How could you not be after a photo like that of the new wee one. It’s going to be so fun watching CHloe be a big sister! Love you!
ohmy! look at the little turtle dove! welcome to the world of May Babies!! Sammi is May5th. you SOOOOOOOOOOOO need to have this one on Cinco De Mayo! we’ll party!!!

Beautiful pictures! I want to go vomit at how cute they are, and how beautiful she is! I am praying for your brother in law. God will take care of him!
Glad you are excited about the baby! Stop by my blog sometime!
Your baby’s turtle enough for the turtle club (Ask Ryan) Sam likes girls?
Okay little turtle is gorgeous…you do know turtle is a she right? And is due on the day my eldest was born…good date that
GREAT photos. When I’m big I want to take photos like you
Hey Kelly,
Gorgeous pics yet again! They are a beautiful couple - by any chance were you offering to date him out to your faithful readers some time ago? or am I totally on the wrong track!!
No babies on the way for me yet - I just keep putting on the weight that generally goes with being pregnant *le sigh*
I will be a first time parent in June(I think). My first appt. is on the 24th. So I think I am about five weeks:) Feeling great and that kind of scares me! Excited and Nervous~
Oh yeah. They are so totally hideous looking. geesh. WHATEV! Fab photos, as always too! We’ll be praying for his safety!
I’m so thrilled to hear your utter excitement. Isn’t it amazing how seeing the babe can change everything??? I just melt like buttah!
I’m tracking for April 24th due date. Belly sisters! WOOHOO!
What a cute little turtle. I still have Peyton’s first U/S photo hanging on the wall in my office - hard to believe he is already one! And I’m not a “belly buddy” with you!! We might start trying around next July for #2. Although, I almost had a ‘oops’. Last tuesday I was due for my 3 month depo shot - and Peyton was sick and I completely forgot. I woke up in the middle of the night Sunday and thought of it. Luckily I have another week before the shot ‘window’ is up - so I’m getting another shot tomorrow. Close call though. With the birthday and everything else going on, it would have been too easy to forget!
I am just slightly ahead of you in the “family way” at 14 weeks. We are due April 10th and went for our first ultrasound yesterday. After a false “its a girl!” we were then greeted with a “waving appendage” that was most definitely a boy. It was kind of nice to get to react to both sexes and see how we really felt (which was indifferent and equally excited).
ouch on the vaginal US..How the BEEP did you get an ultrasound before me? the god’s must be crazy. mine is next week…so excited!!! hopefully Baby T doesn’t look like a turtle at 19 weeks because i can’t make anything out on yours, but so happy that everything is progressing and you are feeling reassured and even excited about this little one!
number one. how CUTE is that picture!??? we call that the teddy bear. i stinkin’ love when you get a picture that good! porty is quite the looker already!!!!!!! cannot wait to meet this one!!
number two. i agree with said assessment of the office.
number three. GO SAM. she’s pretty!!!!!!!!! i’ll keep him in my prayers!! God will protect him. that i am sure of!
number five. XOXO
I’m in trouble… your excitement makes me want to be pregnant again. Ummm… we have issues, Susannah is only four weeks old. Ha! I’ll be praying. Annnd, once again… amazing pics!
Lovey, love, love love the little turtle pic! I am always amazed at u/s pictures!
And I’m agreeing about The Office. Dwight and Angela are too perfectly horrible not to be together!!
Yessss! Parent Trap (the original and ONLY the original) is so awesome! The summer camp! The pixie haircuts! Love it.
I can’t believe you’ve already had an ultrasound. Before you know it, you’ll be rocking that sweet babe in your arms. The time’s going to fly.
I am not “in the family way” and hope to hold off for another few months (/years?) but I am always so excited for friends who are getting ready to pop out another kid. If my kids were going to be 18 months apart, I’d be 7 months pregnant right now. CRAZY! You are going to be such a great momma to two. Chloe’s going to be such a swell big sis to Senor Porty. I think he’s going to be Spanish. With a baby ’stache and maybe you should call him Ramses. No? Ok.
I only had a few seconds to look at blogs to today and scanned through yours knowing there would be some pictured goodness. They were so adorable I had to go back to the top and read who they were! I’m glad he’s happy to be going and serving his country, and wishing him a safe journey!
My first two daughters are 19 months apart and it was planned on our part. It’s awesome because our oldest actually understood that we were having a new baby before the baby arrived. The jealousy stint lasted only a couple of weeks while our schedules were completely out of whack and already (our youngest will be one on friday), you can see a great friendship forming. Saying ‘18 months apart’ sounds really daunting, but I would actually recommend that age spacing- so many blessings on your horizon.
We’re also welcoming our third, (ahead of schedule), between Nov 26 and Dec 12. I’m due Nov 26 but have a history of overdueness so we’ll see when this wee one actually arrives.
Wishing you all the best in your pregnancy!
Aw! That is the sweetest ultra-sound shot ever. I love the pictures of your brother and his girl - I’m off to bleach my eyeballs now…not. My brother-in-law is over there with the Royal Navy - he flies those big scary looking helicopters. He gets excited about going too but hates the food. He says the American forces get way better food… (have you read between the lines and picked up that I’m fat????)
Aww, the good old baby ticker is back!
What great photos! I love the jumping one.
I am SO NOT in a family way, and if I were, then we would know that God really wanted us to have a fourth, seeing as how “we” (where “we” means Matthew) had a permanent procedure done to prevent more babies
Your picture skills are absolutely amazing…You take everyday pictures which are truely my favorite…Its incredible how talented you are…Congratulations on your beautiful new baby to be…Porty is already getting big…My youngest is 11 months these days…We are trying for our 3rd and final child next summer…Good luck doll!
