Yes indeedy folks….the blessed event has finally arrived. Can you smell the sarcasm and awkwardness of The Office season premiere. Oh man oh man, it is almost sad how excited I am. Is this a litmus test of my life? You know you feel the same way. Oh Dwight, how I love thee. Tomorrow…I want to hear your thoughts. Jim and Pam????? They better not drag this out for a 4th year, we can just taste a romance and it is so good on the tongue. DON’T CALL ME, DON’T DIE ON ME, DON’T GET NEEDY ON ME from 9:00-10:00pm. Don’t think you are funny calling either because my phone will be on silence. Take me out of your will, I don’t
care (well maybe I do…I mean I got a kid on the way, have mercy!)
Okay so I get a package in the mail yesterday. I LOVE packages, I absolutely suck at sending them, but I am a very very grateful receiver of them. Ms. Sassy Molassy, Jessica, from O Mama Mia decided to send me a belated b-day gift ( I love September birthdays!!!). This was the most amazing package full of wonderful, fun, girly gifts. Jess…seriously, what genre did you not hit? I am in love. A cheetah dish, how FUN! Coffee, tea, candle, bath scents, girly dish washing gloves, earrings, pen, a giant lollipop, which makes me think of Zoolander when he is tripping out and Will Ferrel is dressed up as a little kid “I want to work”. My favorites…the CD’s. I got the new worship CD by Matt Redman and Jess’s daughter Starlet sent Chloe the Dan Zanes children’s CD. We have already spun both disks and we give them two enthusiastic thumbs up. I owe you a call Jess to thank you “in person” but I had to brag on you for a moment. Thank you SO very much for your thoughtfulness, generosity, and encouragement. I feel so blessed. Check out my booty. Not the one attached to me silly kids.
Lastly, I got one sick little tootie on my hands. It started Sunday with some “irritability” which I will be honest, even on Chloe’s worst day she is a gem. Bottom line she has run a fever of 102-103.3 for several days, it finally broke yesterday but she is still very irritable and having trouble staying asleep. The doctor says it is viral and may even be roseola. Let’s hope not. So far, so good on not getting a rash since the fever broke. I hate when she is sick.
Okay, last random thing. I have consulted the hair guru, Whoorl, about my pending cut and color visit in 2 weeks. She does “Hair Thursdays” but is booked so she is doing some online consulting with me. I am seriously, seriously contemplating a radical do. I have always wanted to go much more funky than my current style which I have basically had for 10 years, just varying lengths and colors. I don’ t know if it is the hormones talking or if it is time to shed tradition. I got the idea for my hair when I was in NY this summer and I saw my cousin who is a dead ringer for me. I am not kidding, it is so eerie how much we look alike, she even has a nose ring like me and she was cursed with the same crescent moon profile I have a.k.a.- No freaking chin! I am very self conscious about my profile, I know, even at 31 I still have my hangups.
Anyway, I fell in love with her hair and Ryan really likes it. I realized maybe I could pull off something shorter and funkier. The problem is: A-she is a size 2 B-she is 18 C-she dresses like Avril Lavign so her look is pretty consistent head to toe. I vacillate between dressing funky and dressing normal. I just don’ t know if short hair will balance my “pear shape” or not and even though I don’t have the wardrobe of Sienna Miller, am I funky enough? So have a gander, tell me what you think. I am not doing the hair color craziness she did, just the cut.
Should I, shouldn’t I???????
Can you believe how much we look alike….holy crap, I never saw it until this summer.
It was really windy, she doesn’t really have a hair split like this.
I do love my long hair, it is feminine and versatile….but I don’t know….I just don’t know what to do. It would take forever to grow back out if it looks awful….but if it looks great, I will be so psyched! HELP!!!!!!

kel - you know i am a huge fan of dramatic cuts. and i haven’t regretted any of them that i’ve done. i say go for it!
Woah, I totally thought that WAS you when I saw the flickr thumbnails at the top! Crazy!
Anyways- I think you should go for it! Although, it’s sort of a reverse mullet… I think I’d like it a little better if the transition from front to back was a bit more gradual
you should submit yourself to whoorl’s hair thursdays for tips on hair cuts. she has been changing women’s lives over there!
i love the cut but if you’re worried you aren’t funky enough, you could always adjust it to your style.
hey kelly, just want you to know i checked in on your blog, after several months of absence and am always refreshed by your honest and beautiful perspective on everyday things in life. So i LOVE your cousins hair cut. I think you should totally go for it! This is coming from someone who just recently chopped 3 years worth of hair growth (9 inches) off and replaced it with a sassy new ‘do’ and doesn’t regret it for a second. (before and after pics coming soon on facebook) long hair is versitile but I needed CHANGE. also, being a fellow SHORTY i can say that I don’t think it would look bad with your figure at all. remember, there’s always a fun happy medium too. like for me, i didn’t want to go TOO terribly short for fear of looking like a bobble head or top heavy with too much volume around my roundish face. I have a similar haircut to your cousin only an inch or too longer hovering above my shoulders in the front but shorter, layered and sassy in the back. it’s fun, LIGHT, and still fits in a little pony tail for those days you just don’t feel like styling it. i dunno, just some thoughts. but whatever you decide to do, i look forward to seeing some pics. i’m sure you’ll look sassy and HOT no matter what. BONUS: drastic hair cuts do wonders for lovin’ too. dar loves it and plays with my hair way more and i mean what girl doesn’t love that!?
I’m not jumping on the bandwagon for you to cut your hair for a couple reasons. 1) I LOVE your hair long. I love your hair long and curly. And you yourself said longer hair is so feminine and beautiful. 2) I read there are four things you should ever do while pregnant b/c they’ll be purely emotional decisions (most of the time): quit your job, sell your house, leave your spouse, and CUT YOUR HAIR. You are certainly a fashionista and you can rock pretty much any look, so if you do decide to cut your hair, I think it shouldn’t be too short - your hair is thick, too, are you going to feel like straightening that ‘do every day?
Though it’s a CUTE cut, I’m with Candace! I love your long hair;)
whoa sister!! that is ONE BRAVE HAIRCUT!!!
not to be the voice of reason here…(you’d understand that to be COMPLETELY impossible anyways, if you could take inventory of all my spontaneous hair cuts and colors over the years….)…but that cut is ADORABLE, but how much work does it require?
let’s face it, high maintenance hair can bum me out. and everytime i cut my hair short — even though i loved it! — it was NOT as easy to maintain as my favorite ‘do = PONYTAIL
would you have to straighten your hair everyday, or can you pull this cut off with curly hair? and would you have to use pomade? or maybe just a few spritzes of hairspray?
personally, i WISH i could — but i can’t be bothered with hair that can’t be air-dried and ready to roll.
but boy oh boy it’s freaking adorable and you can pull off anything….hello, as long as the dye isn’t striped like hers, i’m sure it’ll match your current wardrobe
Ummmm…I love your long curls, but I can TOTALLY understand wanting to cut them. I have had long curls forever and when I do cut them, everyone tells me they miss my curls. But I do love a short cut every now and then. So I would go for it if you haven’t done it in awhile. It feels so refreshing when I cut it. My one piece of advice would be to make sure you can pull it back by the time little Porty arrives. My hair dresser made sure I could do that by the time Abel got here. Speaking of hair cuts, it is time for me to get one!
Not the locks!!! I have to say, I’m having some major feelings about this. Your flowing auburn locks are like a pennacle as constant as the North Star. Okay, well, you know what I mean. It wouldn’t be any easier to take care of if that’s what you’re thinking. That shorter is easier. She has some major straightening action going on. Wah Wah, I’m a major Debbie Downer on this post…what the H, give it a try!
hmmmmm. first of all, holy crap. your cousin looks JUST like you. dawn might have some explaining to do.
…moving on…
hair cut. uhm, i loveeeeeeee it. and i’ve read others’ responses and i have something a little in the middle for you.
cut it. go a little crazier than normal. and short, with your thick wavy hair will be AMAZZZZZZZZZZZING. but, maybe modify it a tad. the back of the cut is glorious. but that long piece over the front WILL annoy you. i can see it now. and with a baby….nahhhhh.
so, i say do it. just change it up to be YOU.
ya know?
Don’t do it. Maybe go shorter with lots more layers..but not that short. It’s not versatile and you like to mix things up. There it is.
I’m still FREAKING OUT over how much you two look alike!!!!
PS: I MAY be having to TIVO the office tonite! I KNOW! so, my point? i will not be reading your blog until i get to watch it!!
My sis just recently talked me out of cutting my hair short, and I’m glad I listened. Don’t cut it, you’ll regret it. You have beautiful hair! John had roseola (not fun), so I feel your pain. His rash was really mild after the fever broke. I barely noticed it after his bath. Hope Chloe’s feeling better soon. John agrees, Dan Zane rocks!
this badge is huge and i am not a security threat.
I like your long hair. I love the layers and the colors. Every picture it looks great. And I am all for change-I love change- maybe try someting shoulder length first and then go all the way? But, what I have seen in your blog and pix is that you lead your own path and style-so why not? It will grow back!
You guys sure do look alike. It’s freaky!
Honestly - I don’t think you should. I don’t think one should ever make hair decisions when you are pregnant. For some vague reason pregnant women always want to change their hair and I have not heard of one who was happy with the change lol I’m not helping am I?
THE OFFICE IS ON TONIGHT!!! I AM SO EXCITED!!
I’m with the few dissenters. My favorite hairdresser ever told me that the cardinal rule of hair should be: Never get a drastic cut when you’re pregnant. Everything changes when you’re pregnant, so even though the cut might look awesome right now, when you’re 9 months pregnant and waddling down the street with a huge belly and bloated face (it happens to all of us…), that snazzy cut might look a little *off*. Wait until Porty is here to do it.
wow. you sure do look alike. that is crazy. do. not. cut. your. lovely. locks!
Honestly? I thought that WAS you as I scrolled down. Crazy.
I say DO IT! It’s a sweet cut, and one I could never pull off in a million years.
And the Office! Woot! Except I’ll be out of town, so I will watch it on the DVR upon my return. Can’t. Hardly. Wait.
I’m with the minority - I say wait on the radical cut. You never know if pregnancy hormones are behind this sudden desire to hack off your hair. And if you do it and hate it, you’ll most likely really hate it because you could be all hormonal.
On the other hand, pregnancy makes your hair grow quickly so if you do hate it, you won’t have as long to hate it.
I don’t mean to sound like a party pooper and I do like the cut. I just don’t recommend anything that permanent to a pregnant woman!
Which is mightier? Short hair or long hair? Fact: Long hair beats short. Short beats beets. (I could go on and on, but I know you know where I’m going with this.)
Don’t cut it! I agree with previous commenters that long hair is more versatile, especially with a new baby. Think of the days without showers…will that haircut look okay after being slept on, spit on, drooled on, etc? A ponytail was my saving grace for 6 weeks. My two cents, for what they’re worth.
My little one had roseola last month, and the rash was absolutely no big deal. The fever is really the worst of it. I’m actually rooting for roseola and not some intestinal bug b/c it really was quite manageable.
Love the blog, love the hair, love the pics! Love it!
i do love love love that cut. ok..coming from a short haired chic that has had the long hairs. you really do have to consider your own locks first. i have very very straight hair…so i can get away with a cut like that b/c all i would to is pomade and go (and only have to do that every other day!). but…if your hair is naturally curly, and you like to wash it everyday, which would require straigtening every day…don’t do it man!
i can def. see you with some layers, maybe even a little shorter than what you have know.
when i am in deep doubt about how to cut my hair, i used to settle on a new color. that’s always easy to change.
can’t wait to see what you decide!!
no major hair decisions while pregnant. this rule must not be broken.
Kelly, please don’t be offended, I quickly looked at your cousins picture and thought it was Ryan with a new hairdo.
I have to say, don’t do it. I love the cut and as great as I think it is, I think your long hair is goegrous. I often look at your pictures and wish I had versatile hair like yours. Everyone warned me during my last pregnancy not to do anything drastic because it was purely my hormones talking. I am glad I listened.
I would gradually work up to the really short do…I cut mine short like that one time and it was too drastic for one time!
Either way, I am sure it will look great! Y’all do look alike!
I chopped off all my hair just after Lily was born and am still regretting it and in the process of growing it out. That’s a pretty style intensive cut, are you going to have time (and money?) to keep it up? I 2nd the gradual idea if a change is really what you are wanting. Can’t wait to see what you decide though!
Hoped The Office was all you hoped and more!
I think the new DO will look great on you. I agree with Chrissy, do the do, without it too long in the front. It would just be annoying with a babe and all. I think that since it looks very funky on your cousin, it will look awesome as well on you.
You two should go into a look alike contest!
I am very happy for you that you are expecting numero deux! You are a great person and your children are blessed to have you. Ditto for Ryan, he’s a great daddy!
My opinion - since you asked and all - is DON’T CUT IT. For three reasons. 1. You have had long hair for a long time, and it is a HUGE change - believe me, I have been there and i wished I hadn’t cut my hair BIG time. It took about a year before my hair grew out, and now that it is long again, i’m not planning on cutting it that short again - EVER! 2. Your pregnant. Your face IS going to get bigger (sorry, it is true), so short hair and cubby face isn’t a good match. 3. You can’t put short hair in a pony tail, so think about how often you put your hair up in a pony tail…can you live without that convenience?
If you really want to go that short, maybe you can do it in steps/phases? Or maybe add some cool chunks of color - like hot pink or something?
Of course, this is only my opinion. I only wish I had as much style as you, so I’m sure that you will look awesome with whatever you decide.
um…i agree with candace. i got the same advice and i’m glad i waited. pregnancy is a bad time to make hair decisions. and holy crap…you and your cousin. that’s nuts.
I say go for it! Its only hair, and it will grow back
since i don’t know you from an acorn (i was just doing a little web surfin’ and stumbled upon your blog) and i’m not extremely attached to your long hair i say CUT IT!!!! i’m going through the same exact thing right now… i’ll be 34 next month and i am dying for a new look. i have also been rocking the same hair do for 10 years or so (varying lengths and color) and it’s time for a change. the beautiful thing about hair is it grows back. and come on, since you’re pregnant, those pre-natal vitamins will just assist in your speedy hair growth if you don’t like your new cut… that’s my two cents!!
and hey, you’re pretty sharp w/the photography by the way…
how did u like the office????????? i loved it!!!!!!!!!!
DON’T DO IT!!!! A pregnant lady should NEVER cut their hair with that radical of a change!!! You’re not thinking rationally LOL… no really - I’d wait! I really like your hair now… at least what I see of it in pictures!!!
Hey, Kel! I am going to go with my gut and say that while the cut is really cool and cutting edge and funkay, I don’t think now is the time for such a drastic change for you. I say just get a nice trim and keep with the same general style you’ve got for now, then after Porty is born and you’re feeling good, GO FOR IT! If you do decide to do it, I’m sure it’ll look cute, though.
PS: Did you pee your pants while watching The Office? With joy? And laughter? Me too.
Something about it is too edgy for me…you seem much more feminine to me. That said I think you could pull it off.
Cut it. I have never understood how anyone can have the same hairstyle for 10 years — or even six months. As a size 26 woman who rocks bright red 4 inch long hair, I say the whole “round faced people can’t have short hair” thing is utter crap. Come on over to the dark side!
I totally thought that was you when it was in your flicker thumbnails too! Crazy!
I LOVE your hair now, it’s GORGEOUS!!! But if you are feeling the need for a change and some funkyness go for it!, but I don’t think you should go bloundish. I love your hair color!
I am going in on Tues. for kinda the same cut only my hair is short, so it won’t be that long.
Have fun, hairs hair, it grows back, even if it takes a long time, it does! I think it’s great when people who have long hair just feel like a change and hack it all off. My sis did just that about a month ago. She went from long hairto the middle of her back to short than your cousin. BUt she is happy and it’s what she wanted.
Good luck deciding!
Oh but I wanted to send more… but alas…. I’ve yet to win the Mega lotto.
Sophia has the matching cheetah plate & said “Chloe needs to have one TOO!” Uhhh… okay but its so cute for hawt mama’s too!
And the hair? Oh I’m sooooo on the fence! I love radical changes to rad ‘dos…… BUT your hair is oh so long & sessy! I feel your dilemma, girl. Either way, you know your hawt! (No. I’m not putting the moves on you!
And the glorious Office? I frikkin missed it! But of all the great reasons, I swear I have one! It was my SIL’s wedding rehearsal in Baltimore. Can’t miss that now can I? Dammit for not having TiVo yet!
