Filtering Life

So I am pretty sure I may be in one of my last weddings ever this summer. There seems to be this magic age when you are a wee bit too old to be a bridesmaid and I think having kids tends to push you over the age of availability. My old roomie and dear sweet friend Kristie, (Kricket to Ryan and I), is getting married in August and I hold the esteemed position of bridesmaid and wife of the photographer. I finally get to enjoy being the subject instead of being behind the lens. Her two sisters and two other friends are also in the wedding. It was decided just a few weeks ago that we would throw a surprise lingerie shower on June 9th before one of her sisters left for Italy for 6 weeks. Thank goodness Kristie had already given me her list of names and her dimensions…all we had to do is coordinate this bad boy from 3 different states.

I have to say, the plan was flawless and we surprised the crap out of Kristie…is that a lady-like saying or what? Her face was priceless. Don’t believe me…take a look.

The theme was margaritas and manicures. We were all given fluffy crowns and glow stick necklaces, in case we wanted to go raving afterwards. Her sister played the resident bartender and came up with a signature drink of the night, the “Kris-tini” made up of vodka, Godiva chocolate liqueur, and raspberry chambord. YUM, YUM, YUM….it was like a dessert.

We toasted the bride to be and then acted like a bunch of girls stuffing our faces with sinfully delicious desserts and laughing at Kristie’s incredible facial expression range.

One little known fact about Kristie is how much she loves brownies, I think Duncan Hines will be her first child’s name. I got the stroke of genius to have everyone stick a box of brownies in with their lingerie gift. The first time she opened one she didn’t know what to think… after the 8th box, she got the joke. My friend Charity misunderstood and when she got to the shower she said, “I baked off my brownies, but I couldn’t find a box for them so I put them in tin-foil.” UMMMMMMM….wow, where to begin on that one. She was so embarrassed once she realized I said a “box of brownies, not brownie in a box”.

We also had a piñata which Kristie proceeded to not just whack with the pole, but stab and mutilate. Poor My Little Pony, all she ever wanted to do is chase rainbows and eat grass made of gold…Kristie stole her dream.
