Flashback Friday

Hey if radio stations can do it…so can I. Who can’t dig up some atrocious childhood pictures and poke fun at them. We all went through our awkward years…why not revel in it. Here are some gems from my past. Sit back, enjoy, and please add some saucy comments to make fun of me more. I can take it…dish it out…I double dog dare you.

Let’s start from my humble beginnings.

destined for hair greatness with my mohawk

I was always destined to be trendy with my hair and Chloe is following in my follicle footsteps. So it was a few years before the A-Team was a hit….but I still “pitied the fool” who dare make fun of me.

This is when i hit my stride of cuteness….toddler hood…before my teeth got jacked up and I experimented with blue eyeliner, big hair and perms. Here is me and the bro hamming it up for the camera.

Me and Jamie kickin it toddler style

and then there is this little ray of sunshine. Not sure about the matriarchal bun my mom put in…but who am I to complain. Don’t you love when bangs start from the back of your head forward.

This is just cute of me...minus the matriarchal bun

Now we hit some awkwardness. This is my throw back to Captain Kangaroo. I think the black ribbon bowtie is a nice touch. You can’t tell that I lost my front teeth and didn’t want to smile…I am so subtle.

Stealing my look from Captain Kangaroo

This where I snowball quickly. Yikes…where to start. Let’s start with the obvious…those crazy shark teeth. Just a little fun fact. The average human mouth is 10 inches (top and bottom)…mine is only 6 inches total and I only have 23 adult teeth…yes an odd number. I had 13 teeth pulled before I even got my braces. Can we say CROWDED in there. rows and rows of crooked teeth. Next, the bangs. This was when I started with perms. We only permed the bangs, of course, and then teased them and feathered them back. Wicked cool! And the smock, bib thingy…whoa….edge of fashion. I was only in 4th grade….so I suppose it was endearing to look this way.

Dabbling with bangs to detract from my teeth in 4th grade
Lastly, a high school shot. To say I had big hair would be an understatement. My hair had its own time zone. Contrary to what you think…it is not “so 80’s”…I rocked the big hair until 1994…thank you very much. Believe it or not, I never stuck out in Central NY. Me and AquaNet were BFF for many many years. It really is a lost art sculpting hair to new heights.

Leaving a BIG impression in the early ninty three

we all look like plastic dolls turned into awkward directions. Nobody looks comfortable. Love the black and white theme? That is how we roll in my family….matchy, matchy.

Well I hope I left room for you to add your two cents. I may do some flashback Friday’s a little more. Please, feel free to leave a link to a picture of yourself from childhood. I want to point and laugh too!

Kelly I think this is the MOST I have ever laughed reading a blog. And I’m not laughing AT you but WITH you,I swear, b/c I could add some pics right beside these that would look the same. I also was laughing at your oh so creative and FUNNY writing…Too much girl, too much!!

That toddler and baby pic of you looks JUST like Chloe:)

I can totally see a resemblance between Chloe and and you, in your baby/toddler pics. Loved the waltz down memory lane. At least you weren’t fat, like I was, during the prepubescent years, making them all the more awkward. :)

Hilarious girl!! Loved it!! Only wish I had a pic of myself to post. hehe

You have the greatest topics on your blog!! I’m serious!! Where do you come up with these ideas…amazing!!?? I think that’s why I’m hooked cause you just never know what you are going to have to say…ie stripper dance!! :)

So memory lane is fun during the baby/toddler years…so cute!! Oh the middle school/junior high years!! I played ball with all the boys and decided I’d fit in better if I cut off all my hair. That’s hard to have self confidence when people can’t tell if you are a girl or a boy!! Yikes!! I’ll leave you a pic on my Flickr account!

Thanks for the laugh today! At myself as well!!

    so…many…smartass…comments….

BUT I will say that I don’t know who captain kangaroo is but I was thinking you look like Colonel Saunders love child in the 4th picture. And not only does Chloe look 99% like you, but you look so much like your dad. You have definitely gotten better with age, but isn’t that the best way? Love you Kel

I have done this “look-how-bad-I-looked” post before.
After the post I wonder if we will look back at ourselves in 10/15 years and think we looked horrible now? I mean we DID think that we were IT back in the 80’s lol

oohhhhh… What do I laugh harder at?? That fab red blazer, or that HAIR in the last one??? You are oh so hot, my darlin’! If I can find some pics to scan in, I will bare my shame for you to return the chiding. ;)

Kelly! Wow, your comment totally made my day! How did you find my blog so fast? I hadn’t even told anyone yet. You’ve totally eased my fears though…I thought I would be a loser, crying into my keyboard ’cause no one would read it, because seriously, no one has them here. Its all about Myspace. At least I can count on you and Amanda to be cyber buddies. Thanks a bunch! Also, I love the pics from your last post. Chloe is definitely your child!! The resemblance is amazing! Have a great weekend…

What fun!!! I crack up when I look at pictures of my youth but its even better to crack up at others. What was it with the bangs that start in the back? I got nicknamed “Bugeyes” because my eyes were too big for my head for most of my youth. I’ll see if I can’t dig up some for ya!

i see now…chloe does look just like you! i don’t know if she has a chance avoiding braces between the two of you, but one can certainly hope!

  12. 12 chrissy Mar 26th, 2007 at 5:35 pm

    oh my gosh.
in all honesty, i think you avoided some of the more laughable ones. those are mild…..yet…..awkward.

girl you KNOW i got some, too.

i need to breathe deeply before doing the same.

    you’re my hero.

OMG! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant believe you had hair that big in 94!!!! Thats a riot!!!!! I mean I was like a hippy at that point but nobody here still had 80’s hair. OK I will tne it down now. Sorry. I know we all made huge fashion mistakes luckily I dont have a scanner so I cant join in on the embarrasing fun. But I was a goofy looking kid. I was super scrawny with crooked teeth and the bangs…if you ever give Chloe bangs I will have to kill you…lol.

Oh my, thanks for making me laugh this morning!!! :) I have pleeeeeenty of beyond-horrible pics of myself during all my awkward phases and let me tell you that chunky glasses braces does not equal cute. ;)
