Last night I was being a dutiful wife, I had chicken thawing and was preparing a yummy side…scalloped potatoes. I put them in my wonderful wedding gift, a Pyrex casserole dish and let them bake away while I finished up some painting in Chloe’s room. I asked Ryan to start the chicken on the stove. We were both standing in the kitchen when we heard a loud explosion in the oven. When we opened the oven door…this is what our eyes beheld.
SO SO SO SO mad. First of all, total waste of really good potatoes. Second of all…you are PYREX….this is your job to be a casserole dish. Just so you don’t ask….the glass was not cold when I put it in, yes I have used it many many times in the last year…it just stinking exploded.
My dear husband graciously cleaned it all up after the oven cooled and I made instant mashed potatoes instead.
Yesterday I went to the quilt store with my mother-in-law to pick out the last of the material for Chloe’s room. Here are all the yummy fabrics that will go in her quilt, bumper, bed skirt, curtains, basket liners, sheets, etc….
This is the pattern for the inside of the quilt:

and this is the pattern for the edge of the quilt…the scallop part. She is combining the two together.

She has more talent in her pinkie then I do in my whole body. I can’t wait to see the finished product, it is going to be so beautiful. Her room is really coming together now and I just stand in there and turn around in a slow 360 about 10 times a day picturing a real baby occupying the space. I still can’t believe it….I AM HAVING A BABY GIRL!!!!!

BOOO Pyrex - BOOOOOOO!!!
And I love love love the fabrics! You and Patty are a winning team - you should go into business, seriously. You pick the fabric, she works it into pieces…I can totally see it.
OMG - can’t believe your stupid pyrex did that! unbelievable! thanks for the photo of it, though - that was, um, interesting.
i love those colors, too.
EEEE! You’re going to have a little baby in that room really soon!!1
kelly, was the glass cold when you put it in the oven? that might be the reason it exploded.
Dear Joe,
I hate you
You are out of the will
and my family
Your non-sister
oh nooo. It happened to me once but that was my fault, hot pyrex dish from the oven onto a wet counter top.
BAM.
Not good.
And the quilt it’s going to be fantastic!!!
Sorry I mixed up comments from two posts here..
What a travisty! I made a mistake with my pyrex once too. So sorry. At least your dear husband cleaned it up for you!!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the fabrics. They are just perfect for a little girls room! I can’t wait to see the quilt and all the other baby stuff finished in Chloe’s room.
Dar and I had a similar incident. only it was more our fault than the pyrex’s. well, sorta. we were simply making dinner in dar’s apartment one night when suddenly we realized that he had turned on the wrong burner for the beans. the one he did turn on just so happened to be under a 9X13″ dish of leftover brownies. (boys!) well, dar quickly removed the dish from the stovetop and placed it on the counter… (again, boys! ah!) thinking logically, i realized this probably wasn’t a good idea to stick a scorching hot pan on the counter top so i reached for it to place it in the sink, when POW!!! shreds of glass flew everywhere. this happened cuz the middle of the pan was hot and the edges were cold. luckily dar’s back was turned so he didn’t get pelted so bad but i got covered in slivers of glass as did the floor, counters, dining room, entry hall, etc. i thought it was a bomb. it made for a great laugh and a great story though!
